FANTASY ROLEPLAYING IN THE PERILOUS AGE!
Based on the miniatures microgame of the same name.

Danger lurks everywhere. The Barbarian Wastes are a haven for uncivilized ruffians just waiting to plunder weary travelers. Some of the inhabitants are completely savage, creating charms and ornamentals out of the bones and skins of their victims. Others are so fiendish in their desires that they consider human flesh to be a delicacy, preserving it in salt for ceremonial feasts.

The Shallow Kingdoms are ruled by various heartless warlords who profit from their lands. In exchange for protection from the Barbarian hordes, serfs are duty-bound to labor. While the warlords and their families live in comfort, those who do all the work live in squalor, often exposed to horrible diseases. The Warlords also tax their laborers, imposing such high rates that many of the unfortunate souls under their protection flee to the Barbarian Wastes rather than face punishment. Whether the Barbarians are any worse than the fury of the Warlords is debatable.

Farther and scattered lands can be enticing to those who wish to seek a new way of life. Some happen upon Marauders in the distant regions. Other exotic places are home to sub-human species, as well as subterranean and arboreal peoples. It is said that magical peoples and beasts also reside in and travel among the most-distant of lands. With the rising threats and hardships in the Wastes and Kingdoms, more lost souls make a pilgrimage to new and exotic places in the hopes of finding a life that does not require one to be a brute.

A chance for peace. An ancient tablet was discovered, describing powerful relics scattered throughout the lands. They are prophesied to bring peace and prosperity for everyone. Some believe that when the relics are assembled, they forge a pact with divine powers. Others see the relics as a chance for the helpless to overcome their oppressors through might and leverage. And the rest either want to believe in them having magical powers or simply want them for the power and/or wealth they can bring.

The hunt is on for these relics. This quest can take you anywhere, from the ruins of ancient cities to the distant and dangerous Wild Lands. The Mammoth Plains, Monster Hills, and Basilisk Caves may also hide the lost artifacts, but care must be taken as interlopers usually end up as something’s next meal. The Sky Forest of Ild is another prospect, but getting there is no easy feat, as it is only accessible by the clouds. Forget not that others are competing on this odyssey. They may have already reached the destination, setting traps or waiting in ambush. Conflict is inevitable. Enemies are easy to find, but allies are not. Hope must not be lost, since the future of all rests on the outcome of this crusade.

This stand-alone fantasy roleplaying game uses an updated version of the classic MasterBook rules, similar but more streamlined than those found in Shatterzone™ and the universal MasterBook™ rules.

Based on the Brutes Fantasy Miniatures Microgame.
