Deferred Actions
A new combat action for Iron Gauntlets.
Contributor: Precis IntermediaCreated: Nov 12, 2005Modified: Jan 06, 2006System: Iron Gauntlets

In addition to the actions available to characters in combat (move, attack, defend, etc.), characters may also opt to defer their action until attacked or the end of their turn. A character deferring his action may not perform other actions during the turn as he is in a defensive posture. Deferred actions may be used in one of the following ways:
•  The character may attempt any available defense against a single attack directed at him.
•  If the character has not used his action to defend and is still capable of acting (he hasn’t been knocked down or lost consciousness, for example), he may attempt one of the following actions at the end of the turn, after everyone else has acted—all deferred actions occur at the same time for all characters.
1.  Move
The director should limit the distance the character can travel to half (or even one quarter, if prefered) his normal rate.
2.  Attack
No defense is possible against a deferred attack unless the target has declared and maintained a deferred action, not moving or attacking.
3.  Reload
4.  Use Skill
Only tasks that take one second or less to complete may be attempted (noticing a movement in a dark room or breaking open a small chest, for example). Sustained tasks may not be performed as part of a deferred action.
