SAND SLICER

Sand Slicers are huge insects, roughly the size of buffalo, which inhabit rocky, desert regions. Using their powerful claws and mandibles, they can rapidly burrow though earth, sand, and loosely packed rock. Their tough, chitin armor comes to a sharp point on their back, and protrudes out of the sand when they stalk prey on the surface, cutting through the desert like a shark’s fin through water.

Although they are formidable prey for all but the most experienced hunters, they are valued by desert-folk, for their distinctive fins, which contain organ sacks that store large quantities of rainwater. When tribal hunting parties’ water supplies run low, warriors are often sent out to find and slay these creatures, and return with their water sacks.

NEW GIMMICK:

BURROWING: This creature can rapidly tunnel underground. It may use normal movement rules to travel unseen beneath the earth. Because of this, its first attack against characters may be a surprise attack. In order to attack, it must surface, and is thus vulnerable to attack itself.
