New starships & spaceships plus a rework of a few others.

SPACESHIPs are typically tiny to medium sized vessels that operate within a star-system. They can convey one crewman to a dozen or so with some having room for passengers. They usually are sublight speed but vessels with supralight speed are not unheard of. Each specie will have the following types of spaceship but they may have different classes (designs, loads, layouts, and specs).

Courier (spaceship) = Small, very fast, in-system vessel. They have lavish accommodations and are usually used for shuttling VIPs. Governments, military, and civilians use Couriers. Except for civilian vessels, Couriers are very lightly armed and shielded. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets.

Freighter (spaceship) = Are used to carry freight within a star-system. They have variable speeds (usually slow) and maneuverability (usually sluggish). Typical crew compliment is 5 to 10 people. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets. Some have light shields with no armament. A few modified freighters have installed weapons to ward off pirates. Check the Hard][Nova book for stats under Migado Freighter except this class has no hyperspace generator and no weapons.

Lifeboat (spaceship) = Emergency 5 passenger tiny vessel. It is capable of very little maneuverability or range but it does have thrusters to safely land on a planet. Lifeboats are designed to save the lives and each is equipped with an emergency beacon, survival gear, food, and water to sustain each passenger for one week. It is capable of landing on a planet.

Liner (spaceship) = Commercial passenger transports within a star-system. These do not carry the large passenger capacity like the starship liners do. Accommodations range from economy no-frills rooms to luxurious cabins. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets. Check the Hard][Nova book for stats under United Tours Galactic Liner except this class has no hyperspace generator.

Maintenance Pod (spaceship) = A tiny very slow but highly agile vessel that can not leave the vicinity of a spaceship, starship, space-dock, or space station. It is used to build, maintain, and repair vessels or space stations. They only allow one crewmember but some are even robotic.

Scout (spaceship) = These small vessels survey planets within star-systems. The vessel carries very few crew. They have vast equipment to study planets and the surrounding space. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets. Check the Hard][Nova book for stats under Tarkosian Scouting Ship except this one has no weapons or hyperspace generator.

Shuttle (spaceship) = Are small vessels that can hold up to four crew or passengers. They are used to transport people and cargo between planets, other nearby vessels, and vessel to planet. They are meant for short limited excursions. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets. Check the Hard][Nova book for stats under Typical Shuttle.

Tug (spaceship) = These tiny to medium sized vessels are very slow and very sluggish. Their main capability is of pulling and pushing around cargo pods, spaceships, and starships.

Yacht (spaceship) = Not many common civilians can afford their own spaceship. Yachts are not very fast and this is a no-frills cramped version of the courier. It allows up to 12 people to travel between planets and other vessels in a star-system. They are capable of landing on planets.

Attack Crafts are short-range combat vessels that are very effective in battle, but only for limited amounts of time. They have small crews usually limited to a pilot and co-pilot. These vessels emphasize speed and maneuverability over durability, and normally are heavily armed. Their main duty is the destruction of enemy vessels. They only have sublight engines.

Fighter (attack craft) = There are numerous designs as there are stars in the heavens. They only have room for the pilot. Fighters are tiny swift and nimble close-combat vessels equipped with powerful weapons. Fighters fly only a short range from their base of operations. They have shields but some leave out shields for more speed or weapon upgrades. Others swap weapons for more shields. Their primary function is for attacks and to escort larger vessels. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets.

Heavy Fighter (attack craft) = This vessel is not as fast or nimble as the fighter but is bigger. It allows for two crewmembers. As opposed to Fighters, Heavy fighters fly much longer ranges from their base of operations. They employ light shields and usually a very small payload of heavy ordnance. Sometimes they are equipped with bombs and other times equipped with weaponry designed for capital vessels. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets.

Interceptor (attack craft) = A very fast and agile scout (faster than a fighter). One crewmember operates this lightly armed vessel. It has little shielding but was not built for heavy combat. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets.

Transports (attack craft) = Transports cram a lot of military personnel into a tight confined area to be delivered short distances to other vessels but mostly to planets. Some are even used by the military as cargo transports. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets.

STARSHIPs are typically medium to colossal in size. They operate within a star-system but excel at intersystem travel. Starships are crewed by a half-dozen to as many as thousands of crewmen. They have both sublight and supralight speeds. It is illegal to use Supralight speed within the vicinity of a planet or star. Only very rarely is a starship equipped to land on planets. Each specie will have the following types of starship but they may have different classes (designs, loads, layouts, and specs).

Colony Ships (starship) = Colony vessels are built for the purpose building colonies on other worlds. They carry a minimal crew, hundreds of suspended-animated colonists, and supplies to get a colony started. They are capable of taking-off and landing on planets and even become integrated as part of the colony.

Typical crew compliment is 10 to 20 people. Medium sized are capable of taking-off and landing on planets. Some have light shields with no armament. A few modified freighters have installed weapons to ward off pirates. Check the Hard][Nova book for stats. under Typical Freighter.

Hyperspace Shuttle (starship) = This is an exception to a starship. This type of shuttle is small and very fast. They have room for one crew and two passengers and enough fuel, atmosphere, and supplies to get to the next star-system only. Hyperspace shuttle’s sublight travel have very limited range. This shuttle is capable of landing on planets.

Research Ship(starship) = These vessels are used solely for scientific research. They do not have offensive or defensive weapons but do carry varying levels of shielding. Research vessels do host a pretty decent engine speed and they are quite maneuverable to zip out of trouble. A lot of the |Research vessel’s room is taken up by research labs and computers.

Capital Starships are huge vessels built for deep-space warfare. They operate for weeks, months, or years without having to resupply. Capital starships usually carry heavy weapons and can have no attack craft to several hundred. Most can take very heavy damage before losing combat effectiveness.

Battleship (capital starship) = Designed to take and dish out punishment. Heavily armed and shielded. They are used to destroy other vessels and to bombard planets.

Corvette (capital starship) = An armed escort vessel. They travel in groups and always in range of the vessels they are protecting. Corvettes do host an array of surveillance sensor equipment. Destroyer (capital starship) = They are deployed as escort, boarder patrol, surveillance, and pickets for fleets. In combat they look for other vessels making flanking attacks and attack in groups. Some are capable of taking-off and landing on planets.

Dreadnought (capital starship) = The largest most dangerous vessel. Dreadnoughts are usually flag vessels. These powerful vessels can endure longer than any other vessel. It has one of the slowest sublight speed and requires a ridiculously amount of crew. Its main role is to destroy other capital ships and bombard planets.
