Alternate genreDiversion i Mechanics
A variation on task resolution for the GDi rules (roll high).
Contributor: Precis Intermedia *Created: Apr 01, 2008Modified: Aug 01, 2022System: genreDiversion i

The following alterations can be made to the genreDiversion I task mechanics so that rolling higher than or equal to a difficulty value is better than rolling lower than or equal to a skill total. These changes should not affect the outcome in any way. Difficulties
While modifiers to difficulty remain unchanged, the base values must be altered. The simple way of doing this is by adding 14 to any difficulty value. Rolling Dice for a Task
The skill total is computed normally, but added to the dice total. If the total (skill total + dice total) is equal to or greater than the difficulty rating, the task succeeds. This means that the margin is no longer needed, except when it is compared for contested tasks, making all rolls run more smoothly and quickly. ability rating + skill rating + sum of two six-sided dice If the total rolled for a complex, challenging, or impossible task is less than the difficulty rating minus ten (difficulty – 10), the task results in a calamity. If the total rolled for any task is equal to or greater than the difficulty rating plus six (difficulty + 6), the task results in a triumph. Double ones and sixes remain unchanged.
 Difficulty  Value  Calamity  Triumph
 trivial  12    18 or more
 routine  14    20 or more
complex  16  6 or less  22 or more
challenging  18  8 or less  24 or more
impossible  20  10 or less  26 or more
