Each character must possess one of each principle (code, objective, and fault) in the form of an aspect (1-6). The director should take great care that these principles are not too general and not too specific. During character creation, allow players to distribute five points among the three aspects.

Code points may be expended to add one point of effort on tasks which reflect the nature of the code. Protecting a woman from harm reflects chivalry, for example.

One point is gained by performing a noble act in accordance with the code.

Objective points may be expended to add one point of effort on tasks which help the character achieve his objective. Forging an access card in order to gain entry to an art gallery and steal a painting which the character has been seeking all his life, for example.

One point is gained by a promotion or other progression bringing the character closer to reaching his goal.

Fault points may be expended by the director to subtract one or more points of effort from a task. The director may can decide to expend points when a character must face or resist a fault. More than one point may be expended for more severe situations. Walking through a room filled with ten large spiders when the character is afraid of spiders may call for expending one point, while a room filled with hundreds of spiders would call for two or more, for example.

The director may increase a character’s fault rating by one in exchange for allowing him to automatically succeed at a challenging, improbable, or impossible task.
