Wizards of old light the way for today’s wizards. They are often revered, and even idolized. The spells cast as part of their exploits become even more memorable than the wizards themselves as they are catalogued and protected for posterity by the various wizard factions. Every faction maintains its own records and typically the spells of their members, but more common and practical effects wind up in their archives as well. The spells described below are the common ones and can be found in the libraries of most factions.
Conjuration Effects
Conjuration is the creation of a simple object based on one of the four elements (air, fire, water, and earth) from nothingness. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways.
Conjuring Rend (Fabrica Ge)
This counts as a single memorization slot, but can only be used for a specific location.
By using Ge by itself, the caster can create a rend to another location at which the desired element is present, reach his hand through, grab the element, and pull his hand back. In other words, the caster must either already know of a location or he can guess. The presence of the element has nothing to do with this spell and therefore may not even be present. As usual, the difficulty is based on the size of the rend. So, if the caster is looking for some water he could create a rend on the bank of a stream. The rend would only need to be one or two feet wide, so the difficulty would be trivial (1) or routine (2) respectively.
Conjuring Transmutation (Fabrica Materia)
This counts as a single memorization slot, but can only be used to convert one specified element into another specified element.
By using Materia by itself, the caster can transmute (using the transmutation effect) air, water, fire, or earth into another element. For example, the air within six inches from the caster’s hand can be transmuted into a rock. Since he will be holding the rock in the palm of his hands when it is created, the difficulty for such an effect would be trivial (1) with a bonus of -2
diff for size—since this is less than one, the task is automatic.
Conjuring (Fabrica Ge and Fabrica Materia)
This counts as two memorization slots, but can only be used to conjure one specified element.
By using Ge and Materia, the caster can instantly locate the desired object and cause it to appear. The distance between himself and the location at which the object appears determines the difficulty and may be modified by the object’s size. For example, conjuring a chair beside him would be trivial (1) and the object, considered undersized, would provide a bonus of -1
diff—this would make the task automatic. If the object were a giant boulder, however, created to roll down a hill fifty feet away, the difficulty would be challenging (4), and the size of the object would provide a penalty of +3
diff for being roughly giant-sized—the final difficulty is impossible (7).
