Ebay and EthicsJan 16, 2009 | 9:07 pm
First things first: I move on to final changes and proofreading of the GD3 Manual this weekend.

Now the main entry: I tried to bid on an item on ebay the other day. The seller had previously blocked me from bidding on his items, because I apparently left less-than-perfect feedback for him the past. I don't even remember him or the feedback I left, but I'm always honest about it. So I emailed him and here's what he said:

" ...I saw that my ratings went down after your feedback, which means that you left me low ratings. If you do not understand what these ratings mean, then you shouldn't be bidding on eBay, because a low DSR rating can lead to suspension for a seller. I have the lowest prices on eBay so you need to educate yourself on DSR ratings - if you want to bid on the titles - then you reply to this e-mail and STATE UP FRONT that you will leave 5 DSR stars for me unless there is a problem on my end - and only then will I lift the ban. I'm sorry, but that's the new reality for sellers - and I do not enjoy or get a power trip banning people - I am doing this to protect myself. "

Wow! Forget that. I wouldn't bid on any of his auctions after that out of principle. This guy thinks he's going to be banned because I didn't leave perfect feedback? Craziness, I say, craziness ;)

Apparently, that seller doesn't realize that extortion can get him banned much faster than low ratings.

All I can say is, "Coo, coo! Coo, coo!"

Also, good luck with GD3 this weekend...
