Warcosm AssaultFeb 06, 2009 | 2:58 pm
Let's talk Warcosm for a bit to take my mind off of other things. The game has proven to be very popular and is taking on a life of its own. I've been asked for new fleet lists and ships, as well as a campaign system for more strategic play. I'm torn over fleet lists. On one hand, I'd like the game to be as open as possible, meaning no concrete fleets or orders of battle. On the other, I can see people wanting more of a structured war progression without having to do all the work. What do you think? Do you want more ready-made fleets or would you prefer to make them yourselves with your own custom ship designs? Hell, if you have lists already made post them on the message boards for others to use.

I would like to see a campaign system that is just as quick and easy as the main Warcosm rules. I'll get to that in due time, but first things first. I was originally planning to put the fighter squadron rules into the first supplement, but I was hit with an overwhelming number of requests to include that in the main rules, so I did. This effectively changed the focus of the first supplement, which is now going to be called Warcosm Assault. I just received a sketch for the cover image and it is going to look great. I can't wait for the final piece.

Warcosm Assault consists of two parts. The first is an add-on to Warcosm with new rules for ramming and boarding, as well as new makeshift weapons and subsystems (expect an update to the Warcosm Shipyard application). Boarding actions are designed to be determined in a manner similar to fighter combat for maximum speed of play.

The second part is a stand-alone miniatures game that focuses on boarding actions. This lets you command a squad of marines as they attempt to board and take over an enemy ship. Those familiar with New World Disorder will recognize the system, albeit in a slightly different form and using a ten-sided die. This book will include a full set of Disposable Heroes Paper Minis that represent marines, officers, and civilians for Humans, Venthi, and Drog, in addition to those of a new race known as Crozians. Floor tiles will also be tentatively provided for creating random or fixed ship floor plans.

This should be a really exciting game. I'm looking forward to it myself. On a related note, New World Disorder players can expect a new set of gang-member Disposable Heroes this month -- it will likely be available in both PDF and Print formats for your convenience.

Woah! That sounds great! I've always been a sucker for tactical games, especially sci-fi. I still whip out the old 'Space hulk' occasionally.
