My previous hunt for a DVR led me to some alternate ideas. One was buying a Mac Mini with an Elgato USB TV tuner, and connecting the computer to my TV. Then I can also watch streaming and downloaded videos on the TV. A great solution for DVR, but pricey if you don't already have the computer. Apple has the base Mini for $599. It's a great deal, but I don't want to spend that much, considering the TV tuner is about another $150. I turned to ebay. They have some incredible pricing on Minis. For $100 less than a new one from Apple, I can get something much less powerful. I don't get it. I really don't. I can understand people wanting the best price, but let's get a little realistic. Why would I spend $500 for a 1.8Ghz w/80GB hard drive and DVD-ROM when I can pay $100 more with free shipping for 2Ghz w/120GB and superdrive? The older G4 Minis are still about $400. Not bad, but completely underpowered by current standards and definitely not worth $200 less. I would pay about $200 for one of them. |
