Man, Myth & Magic

No Fools TodayApr 01, 2009 | 11:35 pm
April 1 is April Fool's Day. It's rare to see a decent April Fool's joke. I haven't seen any good ones this year. However, my computer and printers decided to play a joke on me today. My two printers, both Xerox, one color and one high-speed black & white, really don't like Adobe Acrobat. Color matching is a real pain, even for black & white. It's so bad that I have to switch it off; Acrobat color matching is pretty much worthless. Go figure. I've got the settings working well, letting the color machine do its own matching. The black & white machine was working well with Acrobat 4 CMYK matching -- that is, until today. I went to print some books and images were coming out way too dark. I reset the Acrobat settings for the printer, but no joy. Suddenly, the same old settings no longer work properly. I suspect that it was a recent update to the program that broke it. I had to switch it to matching in the printer, which is close but not the same as what it was (and looks completely different to what it used to look like). I'll notice the difference, but I doubt anyone else will :)
