A few weeks ago, I replaced the fuser in my black and white, high-speed Xerox printer as part of regular maintenance. The fuser on this model actually comes in the form of a maintenance kit, with replacement paper feed rollers for the paper trays and main roller to the fuser. It ain't cheap (like $500 for the Xerox). Turns out that the extra I had in reserve was bad (bent and who knows what else), but the rollers were fine. I tracked down another at about half the price, but it was out of stock, so my money was refunded. I then decided to go with an after-market model (not OEM), because it was even less. That didn't work. It crumbled pages when duplexing (printing double-sided). I was able to use the old fuser by resetting it, so it wasn't out of commission, but still. Who wants to run on old, worn-out parts?

Then, like a miracle, I get an email from the place who ran out, so I paid again and received the Xerox OEM today. I installed it. Lo and behold, it works. It feels good to get a working replacement. I should have learned my lesson after using inferior third-party toners (nowhere near as good as Xerox toners), but you have to really shop around for this stuff. I can buy another one of these printers used at the same price as the maintenance kit :) |
