Working on the Add-Your-Own-Artwork option for the customizable Disposable Heroes system, I ran into problems with browser compatibility -- not with what I was working on, but other oddities I noticed that weren't around before (like the right column in the catalog - fixed it). Internet Explorer has a horrible bug that prevents tables and images from sizing correctly when using percentages rather than fixed pixels. It works perfectly in Firefox and Safari, but alas, Internet Explorer has never been standards-compliant, so why should I expect such proper behavior now?

Meanwhile, Firefox has a problem when you click the back button for some CSS usage. When I hit back after clicking on a link from the fancy pop-up specials in the catalog, one of the pop-ups stays displayed and distorts the whole section. That problem is just in Firefox. Even Internet Explorer doesn't show such poor behavior. Must be a caching issue, but I can't seem to get it to re-cache or not to cache.

Safari has been problematic for years. Not in its display of HTML, but compatibility with some javascript code, heavily-embedded web pages, and at times even ebay. It seems to be the most standards-compliant these days. It's always been my browser of choice and likely will be for years to come. I just can't wait for Apple to release OS X.6 for seamless 32 and 64-bit operation. Safari is supposed to be blazing fast under 10.6. | 2 Comments | Add Comment | Permanent Link | | Return to Overview | Sisren Commented: | Jul 14, 2009 | 8:06 am | |
