More Post Office WoesAug 17, 2009 | 6:48 pm
It's now 6:42 and the mail still hasn't arrived, nor have my two packages been picked up. So if you're waiting for an order in the mail, it will probably be delayed an extra day thanks to the incompetents at the post office. This is primarily caused because mail carriers get two days off during the week. Sundays is a constant, but the other day changes each week, in order from Monday to Saturday. So when the regular mail carrier is off, a substitute must handle his route, and in many cases, the sub's own route. This causes a number of issues. The answer? Duh! Eliminate Saturday delivery, but keep some of the larger post offices open for half a day. Then they don't have to worry about employing as much part time help and using substitutes in this manner. The mail would be much more efficient and costs would go down. They'll be closing some smaller post offices soon. One that I particularly like is being closed. Not good, because it means having to go to a real busy one that could take 30 minutes just to mail one international package. Or, just cut Saturday delivery - but I'm told that the legislature is against it even though the Post Office is for it. Sounds fishy to me.
