Old School MappingSep 29, 2009 | 7:05 pm
How about an old school dungeon mapping program? This is actually a fairly easy project. Much easier than doing the custom hex map program, since it's squares. The concept is to simply draw walls on graph paper for your dungeons, and add special encounter notes wherever you want. Maybe some icons and Voila. You can then print out the dungeon on a single sheet or have it automatically tile lots of sheets, turning each little square into a 1" square for miniatures use. What do you think? Like I said, this should be fairly easy. I'm waiting for Hell's Kitchen to come on, so in the meantime, I figured I'd play around with it. The scaling map grid is done, so I'll see if I can get the walls to work in the time I have left.

EDIT: Here's a rough screenshot and how it looks printed.

I've been looking for something to make map tiles to send the Brutes through, so, yes, I'm interested.

I managed to get crude walls to display, but it needs lots more work. What sort of features would you want (don't go overboard :))?

Ability to make diagonal corridors/walls.

Plus, the 'retro' map symbols from D&D, such as:

-statues

-pillars

-sarcophagus

-coffin

-pentagram

-throne, etc.

I want this NOW and am eagerly awaiting its release. I've been looking for a low-cost tool for mapping out dungeons. Most of the programs available are either expensive, complicated, or both. I'm getting back into tabletop RPGs with Pathfinder, and desperately need a good mapping tool.

Anything I can do to help?
