Verizon had a huge DSL outage the other day. Ever since it came back online, my speeds have suffered. I hate calling them, because they never actually fix anything. For the outage, I was on the phone for over an hour -- it took that long (plus hold time) for the tech guy to actually figure out there was an outage, which I already knew. Today, I was on the phone for 80 minutes. The tech guy didn't know what the problem is. They still don't. But, I was told that it was because of my plan (I'm always told that). I get the up to 3Mb plan, which only gives me 864Kb, because of my distance to the hub. I was told ages ago that the up to 1Mb plan would drag that speed down even more. Now I'm told that I can get the 1Mb plan and still get 864 and that will fix the problems. Yeah, right. Well, I switched plans after all these assurances from $32/month to $18/month and I got $190 in credit for all the time that they've been ripping me off. Well, 16 months worth -- I couldn't fight with them anymore. One minute, I'm switched, but then I'm told it takes a few days for the switch. So I can't actually test it to make sure it's working until then. I'm not confident. We'll see what happens. I've been getting around 650Kb for the past two days. I've just about had it with Verizon. I'd get FIOS, which is still Verizon with a TV/Internet combo for very high speeds, but FIOS is not available in my area, despite all the advertising they have the nerve to do. |
