Do you remember my last entry on color-matching? Adobe changed something in an update and it took me hours to get my colors printing back to the way they were previously. Well, now Apple's Snow Leopard (10.6) update screwed it up. No matter what I did, the colors came out way too dark. When I ran the update, the system automatically updated the print driver. When I went to check ColorSync settings, I noticed there was no color profile for the printer. I never really used one, because the printer handled color management just fine on its own. Just in case there was a newer version of the 10.6 driver, I downloaded it from the Xerox website. I did some poking around in the driver package and found a ColorSync profile. Then it occurred to me to check my hard drive. It turns out that the system did install a ColorSync profile, but it was never assigned to the printer. In the end, I'm now relying on ColorSync for matching, with Acrobat simply sending the raw color data. Three hours later and I was back in business. What a freakin' pain. Between Adobe's non-standard printing and Apple's changes to printing, it's a wonder anything works. |
