I just finished watching City Hall today. This excellent South Korean series is focused on a woman totally against politics, yet has been the lowest civil servant grade for years and is the corrupt Mayor's secretary. In fact, just about everyone is corrupt. After not getting all her winnings from the Miss Mackerel Pageant, which was fixed anyway, she gets fired for making a stink and holds a one-woman protest. After having eggs thrown at her and being attacked, she eventually runs for mayor (not her choosing) and wins (it's a small city) thanks to the efforts of the deputy mayor who resigned to avoid the mayor being ousted due to corruption -- he instigated it, because he came to town on a mission. Then scandal and corrupt officials plague the mayor until the very end. The woman is played by none other than Kim Sun-Ah, from My Lovely Sam-Soon and When it's at Night -- I've no doubt written about these before, two other excellent programs. This program had its highs and lows, and like other shows could have been cut from 20 to 10 episodes. It starts slow, but really pulls you in by the 4th episode. Very enjoyable if you like this sort of thing.
