Is it spring already?Jan 19, 2010 | 10:49 am
Lots of bird activity this morning out back. The robins are here already. There's always lots of starlings and sparrows, but they were out in force. A few cardinals made their brightly-colored presence known, as did a beautiful bluejay. Most unusual, I saw a red-headed woodpecker. And even more strange, not a single dove, which is very common around here. No mockingbirds either, which I see every now and then. Mockingbirds are quite annoying in the spring -- they stay up all night singing.

The birds are weird this year. I live in the same area of the country that you do, and I've been seeing robins all through the winter!

My friend commented that his tulips are pushing up through the ground already.

There was so much rain recently that the grass is coming up nice and green in spots.

Spring? Up here in Maine we just got another 8" of snow. Spring won't arrive until May... maybe!
