Ancient Odysseys Miniatures Game?Mar 13, 2011 | 10:40 pm
As I mentioned previously, Tombstones n' Tumbleweeds 2E is basically a mix of the first edition, Treasure Awaits!, and genreDiversion 3E. It is a miniatures game, but will also double as an RPG. Treasure Awaits! can easily be converted to use the same system, making its focus on miniatures. A stand-alone game would probably be best though. So is there any interest in this or are you all more interested in RPGs rather than fantasy miniatures games?

I bought AO:TA! when it first came out, but haven't gotten the chance to play due to daddyhood and other responsibilities. Anyway, I've just come back to it and have been playing around with it. My biggest selling point for the game was the fact that it can be played solo. I no longer am able to game with my friends and solo play is my only option. Do these new rules take solo play into account? I like the action map- it takes up so little room I can use it anywhere.

Well, as an RPG no. It would require a director. But as a miniatures game, you can play solo because it basically just needs a goal to set for each side (like cracking a safe or killing them all) and then duking it out. It's played out on a tabletop with miniatures, so the movement rules are very different. A fantasy version would be somewhat compatible with Treasure Awaits, but not completely. For example, it would add a fourth ability and utilize gimmicks, something Treasure Awaits doesn't use. There's also no strict turn sequence (traps, creatures, treasure) in lieu of being able choose your actions by spending gumption (TnT term). The menacin rules are basically like morale, working like health, so that's yet another different element. So again, a very different game with a different focus that can be played solo.

I'd like to see Brutes expanded, personally. With rules for making your own warriors, solo play rules, etc. Given the full NWDO treatment.

I haven't forgotten about Brutes. There's a magic supplement getting close to completion.
