Doctor Who fans have lost their best friend, Elisabeth Sladen, who played the character of Sarah Jane Smith back in the 70s beside both Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. She was also seen in the Five Doctors anniversary special in the 80s, had her own pilot called K9 and Company, was later featured in an episode with the 11th Doctor, David Tennant, in 2005 (and reappeared in another two connected stories, plus his finale), and then finally got her own program, the Sarah Jane Adventures, mostly aimed at kids. She was arguably the most popular companion, since she was the only one to make an appearance so far in the new series (apart from K9) and to get two spinoffs, though the first wasn't picked up.
