Krayd von Kleef is a Centauri psion of considerable power and has dedicated his life to furthering the psionic cause. He believes that the future of humanity is the development of the powers of the mind and body. Krayd envisions a time in the far future where all of humanity has learned to fulfill its psionic potential. This is no utopian vision, simply one where man will someday be able to speak across galaxies, reverse aging, eradicate illness, look into distant nebulae, and maybe even travel the inky void between the very stars… all with the power of the human mind. Neither is his an elitist or supremacist view; he wants all of humanity to share in this inheritance.

This desire has expressed itself in two main ways in Krayd’s life: he tirelessly trains his body and mind and actively supports those groups that wish to further understanding of psionics with his money, time, and effort.

Krayd’s psionic skills are greatest in the realm of psychokinetics, making him a deadly foe. While he acknowledges the importance of telepathic skills, and is familiar with the full gambit of expressed abilities, he feels very uncomfortable invading peoples’ minds. His psionic prowess has led several pro-psi groups to try to recruit him, but others mock his egalitarian vision and have even been known to harass him. Krayd is no navel-gazing mystic; his regime is exhausting, violent, and sometimes even dangerous as he pushes his body and mind to their limits. His strict discipline leaves little time for leisure—unless it is to rest before a great challenge.

The bank account of this activist seldom has more than a week’s living expenses in it; he gives his money freely to groups he believes truly share his goals on some level and have the expertise to actually advance the psionic agenda scientifically, politically, or financially. Krayd does not support overt psionic supremacists or violent radicals, but he does keep track of what they are up to. His current favorite group is a scientific body known as Forward Thinking, made up of humans and centaurians dedicated to studying just what about the Alpha Centauri system triggered humanity’s psionic development. Some mainstream scientists call them radicals or quacks, but some of their results have been very intriguing. Krayd also tends to support groups that steer away from expanding human abilities via biomechanical means; why bother improving man if you are still relying on mechanical crutches? Centaurians developed them without biomechanics so Alpha Centauri must be the key.

Krayd views XRIS as a group of dim witted bureaucrats and thugs who enforce psionic registration to keep humanity shackled. It is to man’s detriment that such a body is allowed to willfully stifle the obvious future of the species. It was this view that led Krayd to confront XRIS agents at a free-psi rally. When XRIS tried to arrest a few rogue telepaths from Minds Over Matter, a fight ensued that left both sides culpable for the ten deaths that resulted. Krayd spent two years in prison, accused of killing a XRIS agent with his psionics during the battle. He was cleared of all charges after the involvement of a mysterioius benefactor; Krayd von Kleef maintains his innocence to this day. But his likeness was captured in the media feed and while officially cleared of all charges, his face is well known in law enforcement and anti-psionic circles as a dangerous psionic zealot / activist. Krayd tries to keep a low profile so his training is not interrupted.

In Krayd’s view, the other races can tend to themselves. He had no ill feelings towards any of them, but is only interested in the development of his own species. While Krayd manages to get along with most aliens, he finds the migado to be ridiculous and likely at the end of their collective ropes, given their utter physical impotence. They are a humanoid race that has developed psychokinetic powers independently of humanity, however, so he does follow their psionic research. The migado are exactly what he fears a psionic humanity with no physical discipline would devolve into given time; a race whose abilities are there not as a step on the road to greatness, but simply because they cannot clean their own backsides without mechanical or telekinetic help!
