Opening Treasure Awaits!Jun 14, 2012 | 2:41 am
I am considering opening up Ancient Odysseys: Treasure Awaits with an OSL. That means you may be able to create and distribute your own material for the game. I haven't decided one way or the other yet, but I'm open to your ideas and feedback on the concept. This would mean you could sell your own dungeons, solo/party adventures, bestiaries, spell books, etc. So let's hear what you've all got to say...

OMG!!! Brett, for the last month or so, i've been meaning to approach you with a request to publish some TA stuff and how (if you would have agreed) to go about it. This is the best news I've gotten (RPG wise) in a very long time!!! Please, please, please let me know the particulars and details. As you might have seen, I love this game! After over 30 years of gaming, i've finally settled on a handful of games, having recently boxed all the games i'll never really play (this leaves me with only 4 games on my self...Basic/Expert D&D, Wizards' World, Legendary Lives, and...AO: TA!). Please send any info my way.

I'm still mulling it over, but it would probably be the same as the MasterBook/MasterWorld License:

Well, like I said in my very first post on the Precis boards, I think AO:TA is great and simply needs some additional wares (adventures and solos, and all of that other great stuff that RPG fans love). I read over the terms outlined in the link you posted but was unable to open the PDF. What I was able to read seems like standard fare. Would you allow publishers to use the same fonts? Will folks be able to publish their works through lulu or Drivethru RPG?

The download is zipped - trying unzipping it first. As per the MasterWorld License, assuming it will be the same and it probably will, yes, you can publish via lulu and drivethru and also sell on the Precis Intermedia site. And yes, you can use similar trade dress provided the license is followed (like disclaimers and avoiding trademark names and logos except where required).

Nice to hear about the trade dress. I'm a firm beleiver in products under 1 line having a somewhat similar appearance. You had hinted on the boards that a book IV was (possibly) in the works to complete the game. Is that still on? If so, will your cleric make an appearance?

I was actually working on book 4 yesterday, tentatively titled "In the Fresh Air." Clerics were not initially in there, but I put them in yesterday :) Clerics, Pathfinders, Draconians, some new skills, new spells, animal companions, bartering, etc.

Great to hear book IV is still on the radar! Eagerly awaiting it. Let us know what you decide with the OSL. My creatures and critter book is very near completionand Honor Awaits! (my Asian/Fantasy supplement) has been done for some time. I'll just wait to see if you'll go OSL with TA!.

Oh, and good call on incorperating the Cleric. It was very well done!

OK, we're doing the OSL. I'll work on the specifics this week. Like I said, pretty much the same as MasterWorld's OSL. Thanks!!!

Terrific news Brett!!! Thanks for doing this!

Here's a tentative OSL logo:

very very nice logo, Brett! Polishing things up at the moment to sent to Precis for review (to make sure everything is in order). Just a question, what font/pt/size did you use for the text (I know the font for the headers, but not the size).

On a related note, when you release book IV, will it be as a seperate book, or will you include it in subsequent box set (i own several copies of the pocket-size, but have yet to buy the box).
Brett Commented:Jun 17, 2012 | 1:14 pm
20pt for headers, 12pt for text. I'm not sure about the new book being in the boxed set, only because I don't want to redo the softcover -- so it will probably be a separate book. Thanks.

Awesome!

I'll have to get hammering away at my stuff, which would probably be collaborative or what not anyways. I've got a setting that I'm working on for possible publication, which is partly why I've been so quiet here. :D

Oh, and I'm waiting to see what skathros is up to. I don't want to throw together a bestiary and see he's already got some of the same creatures. I'll get to work on the setting specific creatures here soon.

Cool. The license should be available in the next few weeks.

Hey Brett.

Just wondering, things from the TA! section of the collaberative seem to have been removed. Something happened?
Brett Commented:Jul 06, 2012 | 1:12 pm
Sorry. They're back. Thanks.
skathros Commented:Jul 06, 2012 | 3:03 pm
no worries, i was able to get in by the side door :D
Brett Commented:Jul 10, 2012 | 4:01 pm
The TA! OSL is now live:
