I've been thinking a lot about MasterBook/Shatterzone's mechanics lately. I'd like to create a lite version of the rules when I get some time. They are pretty simple, really. When it comes to damage, you get variable results depending on how well you did. I'm wondering how well that would work with genreDiversion 3E. Basically, you total your relevant attribute rating with applicable skill adds. Then roll the dice and add the bonus number from the chart to the previous value for a final skill total. Modifiers may also be applied to this value. If the skill total is equal to or greater than the assigned difficulty, the task (or strike) is a success. OK. This part doesn't really apply directly to GD3E, but the result value and damage does...

Result points are like overkill. They are equal to the difference between difficulty and the final skill total. MasterBook adds the damage value of the attack to the result points. It also subtracts the target's toughness (and armor) rating from the result points.

Here's where GD3E comes in. Give this a shot. When attacking with the the genreDiversion 3E rules, skip the damage/abatement roll. Instead, add the overkill to the attack's damage value and subtract the target's armor/padding rating from it. The final value is the amount of absolute damage sustained by the target. I haven't tested this, as it's just an idea, but it sounds like it should balance out. Damage may get inflated, so instead of fitness modifying the target's protective rating, simply add the fitness rating to it. If you try it, let me know how it goes. |
