Lords of the CosmosMar 16, 2014 | 8:33 pm
I was contemplating an alternate setting for Lords of Olympus: a Stargate-type god vs. god conflict. Rather than being from the Greek Pantheon, the characters are alien-gods with immortality, plus perhaps one other power. Mix that with hi-tech artefacts (whether weapons, starships, or other devices), so that different factions can enjoy powers, but only through these devices. I'd like to flesh this out when I get some time.

Where to start? :)

I think what would be cool would be if the artifacts are biotech weapons that can "bond" with the users, with perhaps some even being "super" drugs or symbiotic organisms (kinda like in Stargate) that grant their hosts "powers" but at a price, but not as overpowered or versatile as in Stargate. Maybe more like the Guyver than like the Goa'uld. The "Gods" could be being who are capable of "creating" and manipulating life-forms, thereby perhaps creating (or perhaps having created in the past) these bio-weapons and devices. Just throwing this out there :)

I'm leaning towards different royal houses that use different types of technology.

Honestly, Green Lantern, and the Green Lantern Corp are more like "Gods" than like superheroes. Toss in immortality and they would be like Gods. Perhaps there can be God factions like that... the "good" guys and the "bad" guys, where the "Gods" are the Deities of many different worlds coming together to combat each other based on these factions. This would allow non-Earth Gods, but would also allow Earth Gods of the gaming group chose to. Then there are the comics versions of the "Gods" which are more like aliens that were worshiped like Gods. I'd gain inspiration from stories like that if I were writing this kind of game. Mash-up and re-brand the stories of Green Lantern, Marvel's Thor and the Asgardians, maybe add a dash of Stargate, various Manga/Anime stories, and a touch of Farscape. and Babylon 5 (such as the perception of advanced enough tech being like "magic" like B5's the Technomancers). Maybe even add the capability of Troupe Play like in Clash Bowley's IHW games or Ars Magica... especially like Ars Magica, where one could variously play the "Gods", their Chief Champions, and/or high priests/acolytes/fanatics/prophets/holy-warriors/etc.

Would they be interstellar royal houses that are all aware of each other? It'd be cool to see stuff like maybe one "house/world/civilization" focusing on "regular" tech, while another specializes much more in biotech, a third in "psionic" advancements, etc.

I'd still love to see "Lords of Asgard" too :D

I was going to wait until I was a little further along, but here's what I have so far:

Characters belong to a Celestial House, an aristocracy ruled by the eldest. These people are ancient and live forever. There are 6 houses:

1. House Jillar subjugates lesser species with their robotic servants and celestial vessels.

2. House Quin subjugates lesser species with augmented servants chosen from those they have previously subjugated and celestial vessels.

3. House Latt invades other worlds via celestial portals, moving on as needed to acquire new resources; allied with House Golock.

4. House Golock is the smallest group, but use powerful mind control to subjugate others; allied with House Latt, using their celestial portals.

5. House Alliay enjoys symbiotic relationships with their worlds; prefers the status quo, but does not tolerate encroachment of their people or holdings.

6. House Minerxa allies itself with lesser species to liberate subjugated worlds; their protective worlds enjoy powerful defensive technologies; they sometimes uplift lesser species.
